{ fun at the fair }

I have fond memories of summer evenings at the fair from my childhood. We weren't frequent fair-goers, but my parents would usually take us to the local fair once during it's annual run. A trip to the fair just screams summertime to me, and so I thought it only fitting that as we cling on to the last little bits of summer that we visit the Illinois State Fair on Saturday.
We are not "midway" fans...poor deprived Hannah didn't get to ride a single ride. But we DID really enjoy all of the exhibits. One of our favorites was "Conservation World", which was chock full of displays relating to Illinois wildlife and nature. Hannah was really into the giant fish tanks!We also tried to see as many animals as we could. It was the second to last day of the fair, so many of the livestock shows had already taken place. There were a few barns with animals still in them, though.Hannah pulled out another fabulous street dancing performance as we took a break to sit and watch some youth dance groups. She decided to put on a show of her own. The kind gentleman in the pink shirt was asking her where she got her dance moves. He and his wife were dancers who performed on the same stage later that day. Hannah was really chatting him up!You can't visit the fair without partaking in the fair food. Hannah and Brian enjoyed their corn dogs. Hannah took a rest on the steps of an old Lincoln house.We also toured the fine arts building and saw some interesting "art".
Hannah thought this Dew robot was awesome!
Couldn't resist this shot so that we can remember how big our little was during her first trip to the fair!As were were walking back to the car to return home, we asked Hannah what her favorite part of the day was.
Her reply? Being a puppet!
Hmmmm.....

I thanked my sweet hubby for spending his day at the Fair with us, and his reply was both eloquent and disturbing. "Nothing peels the white collar off my red neck like a day at the fair, dear."

Oh boy.
