{ summer reading!! }

It’s hard to believe, but the end of the school year is almost upon us!
Soon the kids will be out of school and the days will be long.
Although Hannah could easily spend 10 hours a day “creating” paper crafts in her room, I’d love for her to keep reading through the summer!

(Throwback photo of my little 4 year old bookworm....seems like yesterday!!)

I thought I'd share some of the things I've found so far in hopes that it will maybe help out another family with their summer reading plans...
We’ve been blessed to have awesome local public libraries in the places we’ve lived, and the reading programs they offer are WONDERFUL and FREE. :)
If you’re local, you can sign up here for the “Paws to Read” summer reading program:  www.fourstarlibrary.com

Here are some other reading incentive programs that we’ll hit up this summer...
(We obviously don’t have some of these stores around here, but we’ll plan ahead to finish these in advance of a road trip or vacation so that we can have a fun stop along the way!)

·        Barnes and Noble - Gives kids a FREE book for reading 8!  Just print out the pdf, record the books you read, and redeem at a Barnes & Noble store. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/summer-reading/379003570

·        Pottery Barn Kids – http://www.potterybarnkids.com/design-studio/articles/summer-reading-challenge.html - Read all of the books on their challenge list and get a free book!  This site also has downloads and activities to aid in your summer reading.

·        Meatheads burgers – one of our favorites!! - http://www.meatheadsburgers.com/pages/community/43.php - Read 5 books, download and print a certificate (which you sign), and your little reader earns a free “little meathead” burger!

·        American Girl - stores host free craft events where kids decorate bookmarks and create a summer reading log (dates for this vary by store). Their site also has reading resources and printables:  http://www.americangirl.com/reading/

·        Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge – free online reading program that has weekly challenges and rewards:  http://www.scholastic.com/ups/campaigns/src-2014

I also love looking at the reading lists posted by other moms on Pinterest to find age-appropriate book series (as if you need another reason to browse Pinterest…)

It’s supposed to be almost 90 degrees here today!  SUMMER IS COMING!!! J

And finally, because I haven’t updated in OVER a month…..we have indeed moved, and the exterior is NEARLY complete.   We are all thrilled to be here.
